Motivation to Multiply
The vision for the CG ministry of our church is multiplication in the lives of the people of God: bearing fruit, making disciples, and growing in maturity. We aim to cultivate a small group culture that makes disciples across generations, and equips our members to keep doing so.
Jesus himself motivates us to make disciples, as the church’s central mission:
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matt 28:18-20
We also read about a multi-generational pattern of passing down sound doctrine in the church: Paul » Timothy » Faithful Men » Others.
You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.
2 Tim 2:1-2
Skill Development as a Leader
Developing Leaders
- Common challenges
- Desire (for the leader to share responsibility)
- Desire (from others who hesitate to step up)
- Intentionality (thinking only about what’s in front of you rather than long-term development of others)
- Qualified leaders
- Practical suggestions
- Challenge others to rise up: ask someone to lead in prayer, lead the lesson, recap the previous lesson, take the prayer requests, liaise with the CG missionary connection
- Solicit feedback from others on your own leadership
- Identify one person in your group in whom you would like to invest over the next 6 months
