On Sunday Mornings
Our team of teachers loves to help the children of our church encounter Jesus Christ each week, as we teach them to understand and apply the truths of Scripture. We reach the next generation each Sunday in the following way:
- Nursery: 9:00-10:30 and 10:30-12:00 every Sunday. Parents of children who are not yet potty-trained are welcome to include them in worship for however long is appropriate or make use of our nursery as needed. Our team of nursery teachers loves caring for the littlest ones in our church!
- Sunday School: 10:15-10:45 every Sunday. While the adults are in their Sunday school, we offer three classes for children to learn more about the Bible from our exciting team of teachers: Pre-K, Grades K-2, Grades 3-5.
- ROCK (River Oaks Church Kids): 11:30-12:00 during the worship service. We value modeling for children how to participate in corporate worship. But we also recognize that many have a need to learn in an age-appropriate way and may not yet be ready to listen to sermons. Around halfway through the service, we invite children through grade 3 to participate in ROCK (“children’s church”), broken up into two age groups: Pre-K and Grades K-3.
Family Sundays
On the first Sunday of the month (communion Sunday), we invite the Grade K-3 children to remain for the full service; ROCK is only offered for Pre-K on these Sundays.
This “Family Sunday” tradition is a great way to live out the Biblical picture from Exodus 13 of parents explaining to children the redemptive symbolism in our worship. What better opportunity for this could there be than the Lord’s Supper, by which “we proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes”!
Wednesday Evenings
Join us mid-week for ROC On Wednesdays! There is something for everyone (adults, youth, children), beginning with food at 5:00 and ministry activities from 6:00-7:30pm. Find out more!
Our Curriculum
We are excited to be using The Gospel Project throughout all our children’s ministries as a Bible-saturated and Christ-glorifying set of materials customized to every age group (even nursery!). Find out more.
Communicants Class
Is your child ready to make a personal confession of faith and be admitted to the Lord’s Table? This is a major season in a child’s life, and our pastors offer periodic communicants classes to help parents and children explore whether they are ready to take the step of becoming a communing member of the church. Contact the church office if you would like to talk to our pastors about this further.
Safety Policies
The staff and Children’s Ministry Team at River Oaks take your children’s safety very seriously. All team members are background-checked, interviewed by ROC staff, and provided MinistrySafe training to assure they are qualified to work with children and engage in gospel ministry. We work hard to provide a safe and joyful environment that will point our younger worshipers to Christ. For more information on our Child Protection Policy, consult our children’s ministry handbook or contact our Children’s Ministry Director.
