Moving Up and Growing in Faith!

As the summer winds down, it’s time to move on up! Starting Aug. 11, children are invited to promote to the next grade level during Sunday school and ROCK. (Please click here for a map of the new rooms.) Grade level divisions are: 

  • Sunday School—Pre-K, potty-trained 3-5 year olds (Von Bora room)  
  • Sunday School—Kindergarten to Second Grade (Wycliffe room)  
  • Sunday School—Third to Fifth Grade (Perpetua room) 
  • ROCK—Pre-K, potty-trained 3-5 year olds (Von Bora room) 
  • ROCK—Kindergarten to Third Grade (Wycliffe room)

The Children’s ministry team—Jane O’Dowd and Betty Ballough—will be in the hallway between both services on Sunday to make sure all kids get into the correct classroom.  

The Gospel Project: Unit 25 and Unit 26

This month, we’ll finish Unit 25 (2 weeks) from The Gospel Project to answer the question: How is Jesus the Perfect Prophet? These units explores how, “Jesus perfectly reveals God the Father and fulfills what the prophets spoke.” (Gospel Project, Unit 25)

Then we will start Unit 26 (2 weeks) from The Gospel Project to answer the question: How is Jesus the Perfect Priest? These units explores how, “Jesus was the perfect sacrifice for sin and He speaks to God the Father for us today.” (Gospel Project, Unit 26)

Lessons this month include:  

  • August 4, 2023: Jesus warned about not acting. (Matthew 25) – FAMILY SUNDAY (All families are encouraged to worship together at the 11 am service.)
  • August 11, 2023:  Jesus is our perfect prophet. (Deuteronomy 18)
  • August 18, 2023: Jesus was anointed. (Matthew 26, Mark 14, John 12)
  • August 25, 2023: Jesus shared a last meal (Matthew 26, Mark 14, Luke 22)

Memory verse for August: Unit 25 verse is Deuteronomy 18:15, “The Lord your God will raise up
for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him.”

All families are encouraged to pick up a Unit Overview on the table in the children’s ministry hallway!

ROC On Fall Kick Off!

Mark your calendar for August 21 when we will kick off River Oaks Church on Wednesdays. For short, it’s called ROC ON!  

This mid-week program is part of River Oaks Church’s larger vision for fellowship and biblical teaching opportunities for all ages on Wednesday night. ROC ON evenings will kick-off with a dinner served from 5:00 – 6:00 p.m. ($5 per person/$15 per family) followed by the different programs from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
