2022 Christmas Eve Nativity Play!

Does your child want to participate in a nativity play? The Children’s Ministry is organizing an opportunity for all children from preschool to 5th grade to participate during the Christmas Eve Candlelight service on 12/24 at 6 p.m. There are also opportunities for older children in the youth program to sign up as narrators. We will be practicing during regular ROCK on Sunday and ROC ON Wednesdays during the month of December. There will be one mandatory rehearsal on 12/18 following the second service of church to practice on the stage. (Lunch will be provided for this practice.) Please sign up in the Children’s Ministry hallway outside the classrooms or email jane@riveroakschurch.com.

Why was Jesus born?

This month, we’ll complete a 4-week Christmas Unit from The Gospel Project to answer the most important question of all: Why was Jesus born? (We’ll pick back up in Unit 8 in January!) This unit explores through the old and new testament how, “Jesus was born to rescue us from sin.” (Gospel Project, Christmas Unit)

Lessons this month include:

  • December 4, 2021: Angels Spoke to Mary and Joseph (Matthew 1, Luke 1) God chose Mary and Joseph to be Jesus’ earthly parents. (FAMILY SUNDAY!)
  • December 11, 2021: Jesus was born. (John 1) Jesus came to bring us life.
  • December 18, 2021: Wise Men visited Jesus (Matthew 2) The wise men worshipped Jesus as King.
  • December 25, 2021: Family Sunday (All families are encouraged to worship together at the 11 am service.)

Memory verse for December: This unit’s verse is Galatians 4:4-5 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”

Instead of Gospel Project Home lesson plans this month, we encourage families to stop by the Children’s Ministry table in the hallway outside of the classrooms to pick up the nativity script for their family! Even if you are unable to participate, this is a great opportunity to slowly read through the telling of Jesus’ birth this holiday season and enjoy the true story of Christmas!

ROC ON for Christmas!

We’ve begun the countdown to Christmas! Please mark your calendar for our end-of-year Christmas Party on Dec. 14. This will be an all church event from 5:30-7:30 that will include food, crafts, games and activities. We will not break up into age groups, but instead, all families are encouraged to attend this event together! We look forward to seeing everyone there!
