We are Family!

With the rise of vaccinations, the lightening of mask mandates throughout the country, and the general sense that things are trending towards “normal” around here–it feels more and more like we’re getting the church family back together again. It feels like a family reunion. So let’s do just that.

During the month of June we will have a special Sunday school series (10:15-10:45am) that will be inclusive of all ages from late pre-K up to adults (nursery and “early” pre-K classes will still be provided). The goal is to remind ourselves that in the church we are a covenant family, young and old. We did a short sermon series and Sunday school series on this theme two years ago, but it’s time for a refresher.

This will be a fantastic time for children and youth to connect with adults and vice versa in a fun way that reminds us all that every part of the body of Christ matters.

Here’s how it’ll work

For the four Sundays in June, everyone (but nursery and “early” pre-K) will start out by meeting in the worship center. We will divide up the attendees into smaller teams that will be a mix of all ages. Each team will pick a team name, wear colored bracelets for some team pride, and have one of our children’s ministry teachers serve as team captain.

While folks gather, the team captains will facilitate a fun and not-too-embarrassing icebreaker so folks get to know each other. Then Joel and/or Greg will lead a very short lesson focusing on one key theme (with one key verse) that vividly captures what it means to be part of the body of Christ. THEN the excitement begins: each team will engage with each other in a specific activity that embodies the theme of that day. There will be a measure of light competition, and there will be fun and sometimes goofy prizes. See the schedule below!

“I’m an adult. Why should I come?”

Great question. Why should you come if you want “regular” Sunday school? Should you just stay home until 11am or leave after the first service? What if you don’t have kids or your kids are all grown up? Why should you bother with this?

Simple: Because you are part of the body of Christ, and you matter to the kids even if you are not their parent/guardian.

God put us all together for a reason.

(Plus, we have had an intense 17-week Sunday school on some of the heaviest topics out there. It’s time for a mental break.)
