Being the Adults in the Room

It goes without saying, perhaps, that 2020 and the start of 2021 have left many of us disoriented and discouraged, for a host of reasons. A big one that touches every area of life is the sharpening division in not only the culture but also the Christian church.

Everything, it seems, is a battleground, with a huge wedge being driven in each passing day. “My side”-ism has produced violence, mutual suspicion, and — within and outside the church — a distortion of the Christian gospel that is multi-faceted and pervasive.

Each side co-opts Jesus to prove its point — and prove others wrong.

What do we do with all this? How do Christians navigate this polarization and stay committed to — and hopeful about — the power of the gospel? How can we seek to be the “adults in the room” amid all the fighting?

Join us for a very important three-month Sunday school series led by Pastor Lanier where we will probe the most difficult and divisive issues of our day and seek biblical clarity.

List of Topics

Each class will involve (a) studying the “gospel” of each polarized position on a given topic, (b) critically evaluating why each position is held so strongly, and (c) discussing a biblical response that clarifies how the gospel relates to a given issue and guides us away from “My side”-ism.
