A Loving Witness
When Jesus Christ inaugurated his ministry as the coming messianic king, he preached a sermon that described his role this way:
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Luke 4:18-19
Front and center for Jesus is the call to “proclaim the good news.” And that is central at River Oaks. But he couples with this gospel proclamation a desire to minister to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the downcast.
Moreover, at the end of Jesus’ earthly ministry, he commands his disciples:
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations.”
Matt 28:19-20
We as the church are called to continue the disciple-making ministry of Jesus by extending it to all nations.
In view of all this, River Oaks aims to be a loving witness in seeing the gospel go to all people, from our local community to the ends of the earth. We also believe Christians are called to use their spiritual gifts to bless the most needy among us. To facilitate this, we pursue the following outreach ministries.
Our Outreach Ministries
- Mercy Team: engaging the congregation in ministering to the felt needs of our local area (including partnerships with local agencies)
- Missions Team: facilitating the church’s efforts to send missionaries and provide them with prayer and financial support
- Counseling: offering professional counseling services to people in the community and church (via a third party: River Oaks Counseling)
- Dyslexia Tutoring: assisting local families with children struggling with dyslexia
- FL Church Planting: supporting our presbytery’s efforts to plant new churches in the state of Florida
