Seeing Ourselves Clearly in 2020
We hope that the 20’s have gotten off to a great start for you so far. They sure have in the student ministry here at ROC! We’ve started a new series for the semester in the book of Ephesians — Chosen: Life in the Family of God. We hope it will help us all see ourselves and each other from a heavenly perspective and act accordingly.
Our goal is that it wouldn’t just be words we say on Wednesdays but that these truths would shape our community into one where we treat each other with the love and dignity due family in Christ.
In this update, you will find…
- Our event calendar for 2020
- A recap of the mid-winter retreat
- Communication reminders
- “The Roundup” (top 3 youth-oriented articles we’ve seen recently)
Event Calendar
We have a lot of awesome events planned for this semester! We’re looking to provide a wide variety of different kinds of events to connect all sorts of people with one another: youth fellowship events, church-wide events, guys hangouts, girls hangouts, family events, service projects.
We will continue our new tradition of family dinners but rather than having them every first Wednesday (which breaks up the flow of the regular series a bit too much and doesn’t always land on the best date), we picked a couple of dates at good intervals that should work well, February 19th and April 22nd.
We’ll also be partnering with Rachel Halley again at Young Life Capernaum twice this semester on January 31st and April 24th. This was an awesome ministry to be a part of last time we went in November.
You can see an overview of the events for this coming semester at a glance using this link. There’s a limited amount of space in this calendar format so this is only meant to be an overview.
To stay up to date on all the specifics of events as they unfold you can visit the River Oaks calendar, watch for information through Remind (details below), or come on Wednesday nights where we always touch base on upcoming events.
Mid-Winter Wonder
The high school midwinter retreat was amazing! We all had such a great time hanging out, playing sports, having deep conversations and worshiping God! Everyone agreed the speaker was one of the best we had heard at a youth retreat (and between all of us on the trip we have been to a LOT of retreats) and we came away closer to one another and to Christ, reminded of our need for justification through faith in Him alone!
Middle schoolers, your turn is coming up soon! If you haven’t already signed up do so ASAP by emailing (or getting your parent to email) Joel Trigger. We were disappointed not to be able to go last year because of scheduling conflicts for our adult leaders, but this year we have an awesome group of leaders ready and excited for you to have this time of growing in Christ.
If you’re a regular at youth group this is one of the best opportunities of the year to grow in your faith in Christ and friendships with one another. If you’re new or not involved yet, this is the perfect opportunity to get really connected!
