Reading the Minor Prophets Afresh

Micah is not a book of the Bible that many people spend a lot of time reading. In fact…you may be wondering, “Is that even in the Bible?” It is sandwiched between Jonah (which most everyone knows something about) and Nahum (even less famous than Micah), and it can be easy to skip over.

But Micah, though speaking to the nation of Israel in 750-700 BC, has an abiding message from the Lord. Each major section begins with “Hear!” And so we should listen up!

The NT authors certainly were, as Micah’s prophecy of a coming king gets quoted in the NT:

And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.

Matthew 2:5-6, quoting Micah 5:1-3
