Continuing our Partnership with Isaiah 61
The ROC Session and Missions Committee of River Oaks have approved sending another short-term mission team to Acaba Mundo (in Belo Horizonte, Brazil). Date is TBD, but likely late May/early June 2027.
This will be our fourth trip to support Isaiah 61 ministries in the favela in southeastern Brazil.
Initial interest meeting: November 8, 2026 (12:15pm, Spurgeon room)
Recap of the 2026 trip
Team & goals
The 2027 trip will pursue the same goals as prior trips, focusing on three main types of activities while in Belo:
- Ministering to children and their families in the favela, through a “mini-VBS” and off-site retreat
- Continuing construction on the Isaiah 61 community center
- Partnering with two local churches (Com Vida and Comunidade Horizonte) for different types of teaching, outreach activities, and worship
Our dedicated Substack page featured regular updates leading up to and during the trip.
