Sign Up for the Christmas Eve Nativity Play!
The Children’s Ministry Team is organizing a nativity play during the Christmas Eve Candlelight service on 12/24 at 6 p.m. All children from preschool to 5th grade can register to participate! There are also opportunities for older children in the youth program to sign up as readers. We will be practicing during regular ROCK on Sunday and ROC ON Wednesdays during the month of December. There will be one mandatory rehearsal on 12/19 following the second service of church to practice on the stage. Please sign up in the Children’s Ministry hallway outside the classrooms or email jane@riveroakschurch.com.
Why was Jesus born?
This month, we’ll complete a 4-week Christmas Unit from The Gospel Project to answer the most important question of all: Why was Jesus born? (We’ll pick back up in Unit 33 in January!) This unit explores through the old and new testament how, “Jesus was born to rescue us from sin.” (Gospel Project, Christmas Unit)
Lessons this month include:
- December 5, 2021: Angels Spoke to Mary and Joseph (Matthew 1, Luke 1) God chose Mary and Joseph to be Jesus’ earthly parents. (FAMILY SUNDAY!)
- December 12, 2021: Jesus was born. (John 1) Jesus came to bring us life.
- December 19, 2021: Wise Men visited Jesus (Matthew 2) The wise men worshipped Jesus as King.
- December 26, 2021: Special Christmas Activities (Matthew 1, Luke 1)
Memory verse for December: This unit’s verse is Galatians 4:4-5 “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.”
Instead of Gospel Project Home lesson plans this month, we encourage families to stop by the Children’s Ministry table in the hallway outside of the classrooms to pick up the nativity script for their family! Even if you are unable to participate, this is a great opportunity to slowly read through the telling of Jesus’ birth this holiday season and enjoy the true story of Christmas!
What’s coming up at ROC ON?
We’ve begun the countdown to Christmas! This means that we only have 3 more ROC ON’s until Christmas break. Mark your calendar for our end-of-year Christmas Party on Dec. 15!
During the December 15 Christmas Party, children will be able to use their ROC ON points to purchase small prizes from the ROC ON store. The kids have been earning points all year by bringing their bibles, bags and memorizing bible verses. The children will also have the opportunity to practice the nativity play.

Save The Date for the Next Teacher Training!
The next Children’s Ministry training will be January 16 directly following church. Lunch will be provided. We encourage everyone who is teaching at River Oaks to mark their calendar. More information will be sent out at the beginning of the year.
