New Sunday School Series
Paul writes, “Whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction” (Rom 15:4). Contrary to some modern efforts to unhitch the church from the Old Testament, Paul says quite the opposite: the OT was for us.
It’s hard to make it very far in the New Testament without running into a quotation or allusion to the OT Scriptures. In fact, the very first line of Matthew refers to genealogies, David, and Abraham. And the conclusion of Revelation is a symphony of OT allusions, culminating with the final words of Jesus that echo Isaiah (Rev. 22:16). Depending on how you count, there are over 400 clear uses of the OT in the NT.
While the OT is difficult and even sometimes strange to modern readers, it was the fountainhead of NT theology.
This ten-week Sunday school series led by Dr. Greg Lanier will equip you with the tools you need to understand what the NT authors are doing when they draw on the OT.
Livestream & Recordings
The series will be taught in person from 10:15-10:45am in the ROC worship center (adhering to our Stage 2 protocols). However, a Zoom livestream will be available here (password: roc). Use the YouTube playlist below to watch the replays.
The notes can be found here (the file will be updated as we go).
