Want to Understand the Full Bible?
With the start of a new year comes the opportunity to start afresh with reading Scripture. The pastors at River Oaks would like to offer you some suggested plans to help you read more Scripture in the new year!
1. Learn the Bible Storyline
For many Christians, reading through all 1,179 chapters of the Bible is too much to bite off (over 3 chapters per day). It’s easy to get bogged down somewhere in Numbers. As an alternative, we encourage you to consider the Redemptive-Historical Bible Reading Plan. It curates 200 chapters from OT and NT that tell the main story of Scripture, allowing you to go at a more comfortable pace and digest what you’re reading. OT readings are matched up with corresponding NT readings to help you see fulfillment from old to new. Check it out here.
2. Classic M’Cheyne Plan
Work your way canonically through the OT and NT, with a chunk of each per day. This is one of the most popular plans of all time!
You’ll read the NT and Psalms twice and the rest of the OT once. Check it out here.
3. Daily Readings, by Section of Scripture
Crossway provides an interesting daily plan that allows you to read a chapter or so from four main sections of Scripture:
- Psalms and Wisdom
- Pentateuch and History of Israel
- Chronicles and Prophets
- New Testament
But you could also pick one to focus on, if there’s a specific section of Scripture for which you’d like to go deeper this year. You can print it, cut it up, and use each section as a bookmark. Check it out here.
4. Five-Day Reading Program
Hate missing a day or two? Feel stressed if you can’t check the box and you feel like you’re falling more and more behind? Has the reading plan become your taskmaster? We’ve all been there.
Here’s a refreshing plan that is designed to work 5 out of 7 days of the week, giving you more breathing room each week. You can spread out the readings or take two days off (to play catch up too!). Check it out here.
