God is Great!
In the children’s ministry this month we will be looking at the transition from the time of the Judges to the Kingdom of Israel.
Although God was Israel’s king and had shown them (and their enemies) how great He was and that He would always take care of His people, they wanted to be like the nations around them with a human king instead.
God would give them what they asked for, and their human king would not take care of them as well as He did. But God had a plan to use these kings to point His people to what they really needed. We will cover Unit 10 (Samuel and Saul) and begin Unit 11 (the life of King David) during this month.
For Teachers
We’re always encouraged each week by your faithful service and teamwork! Thank you all for the work you’ve done over the past month to integrate the new ROCK blocks and ROCK books initiatives into our ministry. We recently received an encouraging email from a parent sharing how excited their child was about memorizing scripture and contributing to the goal! !
Memory verse for Unit 10: This unit’s verse is Jeremiah 10:6: “There is none like you, O Lord; you are great, and your name is great in might.” You can always find a printout of the current verse in the curriculum folder.
Teaching tip for October: Scripture memorization! Children have an incredible capacity for memorizing things in their early years and if we can give them a solid foundation of God’s Word hidden in their heart at this early age it will stick with them for years to come. With the ROCK books as an added tool to help them remember what memory verse we’re working on, be sure to encourage them to take advantage of that and maybe spend some time working on it together as a class if you have time.
Training videos: Check out these Gospel Project videos for each of the upcoming lessons in October. Click on the date and lesson title to expand and show the video.

For Parents
We so appreciate the engagement we’ve seen from families so far this year in the children’s ministry. We hope that the ROCK books have been a helpful tool for you all in bridging the gap from Sunday to the rest of the week. We’ve been so encouraged to hear how it has accomplished that goal for some of you and we look forward to building on that momentum with you to make a daily habit of discussing the things of God together as a family.
Family worship tip for October: In case you missed it, we recently had two sessions in our adult Sunday school class on leading family worship (led by Frank Liljeros and Chip Gregory). If you weren’t able to be a part of these conversations, you can see the handouts and listen to the audio (classes 6 and 7). These discussions were simply a starting place, but there is even more conversation to be had. Talk with other parents about what they have tried, share tips you’ve learned, and let’s continue to encourage one another to grow in this area as a body.
